A CubeSat is a cube-shaped nanosatellite used for space research. These small research satellites usually have a volume of one liter and weigh 1.33 kilograms or less. The CubeSat’s small size and common launch system for deployment makes it a cost-effective way of sending a payload into orbit. As larger CubeSats are being developed, applications can expand from academic and technology to more scientific and defense-related missions.
